Summer projects
It’s been a busy summer with lots going on. A few nice projects completed and others are underway.
The earth lime job at Morley’s Terrace is nearly there and I couldn’t be happier with how these curved reveals look on the window walls.
The base coat used is a dry-slaked, earth lime mix, using flax fibre as a binder.
This project is due for completion in the next couple of weeks, I can’t wait to share it all on here.
I also found time to fit in a day of personal development. I attended a workshop led by Nigel Copsey on lime mortars.
Recent discoveries by Nigel has led to me changing my method of mixing lime mortars. Dry slaking is now believed to be the method used throughout much of history and I’ve been using it with great success.
I’m going to do a YouTube instructional video on the method, just to demonstrate how easy and effective it is.
I was also invited back to a project I completed earlier in the year, to see the finished product now the scaffolding has been removed. The before and after images on this property speak for themselves! The stark contrast between the starting and end point of a job gives me great pride in the work that I do.
Keep an eye out for a full profile piece on this project in my completed projects section that will be available soon.
The view of it from a distance, stood out against the dale side, is something else.
Other lime projects are underway, including this large room with a vaulted ceiling at Church Houses.
I look forward to sharing the finished article in the next blog post.
